WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Mica Schneider continued her late season surge, pouring in a game-high 25 points to lead Midwestern State to a 64-60 win over UT Tyler Saturday afternoon at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
The win snapped a four-game slide for the Mustangs, who improved to 9-13 on the season and 7-11 in Lone Star Conference play.
But the Patriots made it interesting by clawing all the way back from an 18-point deficit early in the second half to get within a single point on four occasions in the game's final four minutes.
UT Tyler's Kelsey Crouse came alive to hit a 3-pointera nd a pair of free throws to precded back-to-back triples by Lilli Stewart and Carah Burdette t ocomplete an 11-3 run to pull the Patriots within a single point at 57-56 with 2:28 to go, but they would never lead.
Schneider converted seven of her eight free throws in the in the closing moments to seal the win for Midwestern State. The Boerne, Texas native connected on 6-of-13 from 3-point range to account for all of field goals. Schneider also snagged a team-best seven rebounds.
Senior forward
Elizabeth Cathcart scored 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting off of the bench to account for the only two double-digit scorers for the Mustangs.
Beezy Birchette scored 15 points to pace UT Tyler, while Tyreesha Blaylock added 12.
Midwestern State takes on Arkansas-Fort Smith Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
