GULF SHORES, Ala. – Five Midwestern State players collected two hits, but the Mustangs (0-2) managed just one extra-base hit in a 7-3 loss to the Mississippi College Lady Choctaws (1-1) on Saturday night at the Gulf Shores Invitational.
Mississippi College struck early, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. Hayden Claypool and Kendal Daniels each drove in two runs to stake the Lady Choctaws to a 4-0 edge.
MSU Texas got on the board in the third on a
Mattye Tyler RBI single but Mississippi College answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame. Tyler (0-1) finished 2-for-4 at the plate and took the loss in the circle after surrendering seven runs in five innings.
After the Lady Choctaws pushed their lead to 7-1 in the fifth, the Mustangs plated single runs in the sixth and seventh.
Bailey Wamsley and
Kelsey Eropkin each drove in runs.
Eropkin went 2-for-3 with a walk while
Lauren Lindgren (2-for-4),
Bailey Brenek (2-for-4), and
Ashley Turner (2-for-4) all collected multi-hit games.
Kathryn Wells tossed a scoreless inning of relief. The Mustangs pounded out 13 hits.
The Maroon and Gold wrap up the Gulf Shores Invitational on Sunday against Palm Beach Atlantic (Fla.). First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m.
