WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State announced the signing of Maiyah Watkins to a National Letter of Intent Wednesday afternoon.
The 5-8 guard is set to join the first-year coach
Christopher Reay's women's basketball squad beginning with the 2021-22 season.
"We are thrilled to welcome Maiyah to our basketball family. She has an amazing personality with a tremendous family," Reay said. "Maiyah is an all-around guard, who brings the ability to drive to the rim and finish. She also possesses the ability to stretch the floor and shoot from range. Her defense and athleticism will be a great addition to our squad."
Watkins competed each of the past two seasons for coach Monica Pena at Flower Mound Marcus High School after transferring from Timber Creek High School in Fort Worth where she helped the Falcons Area round playoff appearances as a freshman and sophomore.
Watkins earned an 82nd ranking among 2021 high school graduates on Premier Basketball's J. Key's Texas Rankings.
She competed on the AAU state for High Goals Elite out of Southlake, Texas.
Watkins intends to major in education at Midwestern State.
