COMMERCE, Texas -- Texas A&M-Commerce's Chania Wright poured in a career-high 33 points to lead the eight-ranked Lions to a 107-70 win over Midwestern State Saturday afternoon at The Field House.
The junior from DeSoto, Texas knocked down five triples and connected on 12-of-17 shots scoring 25 points in the first half as the Lions extended their perfect start to 13-0.
"She's a good player," MSU coach
Noel Johnson said. "We needed to do a better job of committing to our help defense to cut off her drives."
Texas A&M-Commerce's total output was the most point surrendered by a Midwestern State squad since Tarleton State put up 111 on Feb. 6, 1983. The Mustangs dropped to 5-5 on the season and 3-3 in Lone Star Conference play.
"Our record isn't indicative of the type of team we have. This is a special group of ladies," Johnson said. "Just like the coaching staff feels like we didn't have them prepared as well as we could, they are down because they didn't feel like they executed well enough today."
Wright ignited a 23-2 run in the second quarter by scoring 13 points powered by three 3-pointers to help Texas A&M-Commerce take control of the game. The Lions led 55-29 at the break.
Hannah Reynolds tallied a career-high 24 points to lead Midwestern State. The junior forward from Prosper connected on 8-of-14 shots from the field and grabbed six rebounds.
Senior guard
Mica Schneider scored in double figures for the second straight game finishing with 11 points, while junior
Corbriyana Wingfield and freshman
Frances King scored eight points each.
Midwestern State takes on St. Edward's Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
