DURANGO, Colo. -- Kelly Cannistra scored for the second straight game, but it proved to be the only offense Midwestern State could muster in a 3-1 loss to the Fort Lewis Skyhawks on Sunday afternoon at Dirks Field.
Cannistra's unassisted goal, a 51st minute tally, tied the game at 1-1.
"
Valentina Carvajal's shot deflected off the keeper's hands and then the crossbar, and Kelly did a great job of getting in position to finish," Midwestern State Head Coach
Ryan Spence said. She does a good job of always being in the right place."
Less than a minute later, Fort Lewis pulled back in front on a Bailey Webster goal off a corner kick, one of two goals on the afternoon for the Skyhawks off corner kicks.
"It was a deflating goal." Their last two goals came off of corner kicks. I thought we had played pretty well up until that point, and had fought hard to tie the game," Spence added.
The Skyhawks added an insurance goal later in the half.
