PITTSBURG, Kansas – After splitting a pair of matches to begin the 2019 season, Midwestern State continues play at the Gorilla Classic Tournament on Saturday, September 7. MSU will take on Missouri Western State at 9 a.m. Central Time before wrapping up the day with a 2 p.m. clash against Southwest Baptist (Missouri).Â
SERIES HISTORY
This is the eighth meeting all-time between Midwestern State and Missouri Western State and the first since September 3, 2016. The Griffons have won each of the last two meetings. This is the fourth meeting between the Mustangs and Southwest Baptist (Missouri). MSU leads the head-to-head series, 2-1. The Maroon and Gold upended the Bearcats in their last meeting, 3-1, on September 2, 2017 in Stephenville, Texas.

COACH'S CORNER
Valerie Armstrong began her second season as Head Coach of the Midwestern State Volleyball team with a thrilling five-set win over Western State (Colorado) on September 6. In her first season at the helm, the Mustangs posted a 5-23 record and a 3-17 mark in the Lone Star Conference.

GHOLSON IS GOLD
Senior
Rockelle Gholson collected two double-doubles on day one of the Gorilla Classic Tournament. The Anaheim, California native notched 13 kills and 12 digs in the season opener, before compiling a 12 kill, 12 dig afternoon against Pittsburg State.

SCOUTING THE COMPETITIONÂ
Missouri Western State has opened the season with three straight wins at the Gorilla Classic Tournament. MSU took down Southwest Baptist University, 3-1, before blanking both East Central University and Western Colorado University, 3-0. Southwest Baptist University enters at 1-1 on the year. The Bearcats fell to Missouri Western State before beating East Central.Â

UP NEXT
MSU heads to Denton, Texas and Kitty Magee Arena on September 13 to take part in the Pioneer Invitational. The Mustangs will meet Henderson State (Arkansas) at 2 p.m. Central Time before finishing up with Sioux Falls (South Dakota) at 6 p.m. Central Time.
