SANTE FE, New Mexico – Midwestern State kicks off the 2019 campaign against New Mexico Highlands on Friday, September 6 at the Municipal Recreation Complex. The Mustangs and Cowgirls square off at 2 p.m. Central Time.
SERIES HISTORY
This is the fifth meeting between the two schools. MSU holds a 3-0-1 advantage and has surrendered just two goals all-time to the Cowgirls. The squads last met on August 30, 2018, with MSU edging New Mexico Highlands 2-1 in overtime in Wichita Falls, Texas.
KICKING OFF A NEW YEAR
Midwestern State is 14-8-2 in season openers. MSU is unbeaten in their last three season openers (2-0-1).
SPENDING TIME WITH SPENCE
Ryan Spence begins his second season as the Head Coach of the Midwestern State Women's Soccer team. In his first year in charge, the Mustangs finished 2-13-3 and 1-9-2 in Lone Star Conference action, earning a trip to the quarterfinals in the LSC Postseason Tournament. The former three-time All American at MSU (2008-11) coached junior defender
Imani Morlock to a first-team all-conference selection in 2018.
SCOUTING THE COWGIRLS
New Mexico Highlands struggled in 2018, posting a 2-13-1 mark and will now need to fill the void created by the departure of Alondra Gildo-Ceballos. A current Graduate Assistant on Coach Bianca Contreras' staff, Gildo-Ceballos led the Cowgirls in scoring last year with four tallies. New Mexico Highlands has not finished with a winning record since posting an 11-5-4 mark in 2014.
