DALLAS, Texas – Midwestern State travels to Dallas on Saturday afternoon for a clash with No. 19 Dallas Baptist. Match time is 1 p.m.
SERIES HISTORY
The Maroon and Gold have never lost to Dallas Baptist, recording a 7-0-0 mark. Five of Midwestern State's seven victories in the series have been shutouts. This is the first time in the series that MSU will take on a ranked DBU side.
CARVAJAL'S CANNON
Although
Valentina Carvajal has not found the back of the net this season, the junior leads the team in shots (12) and is second on the team with five shots on goal. She has recorded at least one shot in all but one game this season.
STUCK IN NEUTRAL
After a season opening win over New Mexico Highlands, the Mustangs have gone winless over their last five games (0-4-1). MSU has also failed to score more than one goal in a game since the season opener.
SPENDING TIME WITH SPENCE
Ryan Spence opened his second season as the Head Coach of the Midwestern State Women's Soccer team with a 3-2 overtime win over New Mexico Highlands on September 6. In his first year in charge, the Mustangs finished 2-13-3 and 1-9-2 in Lone Star Conference action, earning a trip to the quarterfinals in the LSC Postseason Tournament.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
At 4-0-1, Dallas Baptist is off to their best five-game start since opening the 2012 season at 4-1-0. That year's club finished 18-3 and was upset in the NCAA South Central Regional Tournament by the Colorado School of Mines. Delaney Schmidt has been a catalyst on offense for DBU, leading the squad in goals (3), points (6), and shots (15).
