WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma – Senna Garcia scored her first goal of the season, but Midwestern State's (1-3-1) second half surge was not enough in a 2-1 loss to Southwestern Oklahoma State University (2-2-0) on Tuesday afternoon at the SWOSU Athletic Complex.
"We got off to a bit of a slow start," said Head Coach
Ryan Spence. "They scored those two first half goals and played a direct style which in turn made us have to run more. I did think we played better in the second half."
Trailing 2-0 in the 69
th minute, the Mustangs cut the deficit to one when Garcia found the back of the net following a scramble inside the box.
"A goal can happen in an instant in soccer. We fought and were able to get a goal back. At that stage of the game, with more than 20 minutes left, we put ourselves in a position to hunt for the equalizer. Unfortunately, we could not get that second goal."
Trailing 2-1 with seconds remaining, MSU took a corner kick from the right side, but the attempt was cleared out of the box without the Mustangs registering a shot.
