DALLAS, Texas – A busy weekend for Midwestern State Volleyball continues on Saturday with a pair of matches at the DBU Patriot Tournament. The Maroon and Gold meet Missouri Southern State at 11 a.m. before ending the day with a clash against Dallas Baptist at 5 p.m.
SERIES HISTORY
Midwestern State owns a 4-2 edge over Missouri Southern State. MSU Texas has won the last three meetings, including a 3-1 victory over the Lions on September 11, 2015. The Mustangs have lost just one set to the Lions over their last three matchups.
MSU has dominated Dallas Baptist over the years, posting a 37-19 mark against the fellow Lone Star Conference member. The 37 wins is the most for the Mustangs against one school in program history.
EAKIN IS RAKIN'
Senior
Sarah Eakin turned in a monster opening match at the Pioneer Invitational, posting 19 kills and a .474 kill rate. The Wichita Falls native finished with five kills in the nightcap.
LOTS OF LOVE FOR LOPEZ
Audry Lopez was unstoppable at the Pioneer Invitational as the Defensive Specialist earned a match-high 24 digs. She followed up her performance with 10 more digs in the nightcap.
SCOUTING THE FIELD
Missouri Southern State enters action at 5-2 after splitting a pair of matches on Friday night. The Lions downed Colorado Christian 3-2 before falling to Dallas Baptist 3-2.
Dallas Baptist stands at 4-3 on the year after a pair of wins on Friday. DBU upended both Oklahoma Baptist and Missouri Southern State, 3-2.
COACH'S CORNER
Valerie Armstrong began her second season as Head Coach of the Midwestern State Volleyball team with a thrilling five-set win over Western State (Colorado) on September 6. In her first season at the helm, the Mustangs posted a 5-23 record and a 3-17 mark in the Lone Star Conference.
UP NEXT
The Mustangs head to Lawton, Oklahoma for a September 20 date with Cameron. Match time is slated for 5:30 p.m. from the Aggie Gym.
