WICHITA FALLS, TEXAS – Another day, another Goliath vanquished for No. 23-ranked Midwestern State. The Mustangs handed No. 5-ranked Washburn its first loss against a NCAA Division II opponent this season in Friday's 4-3 upset at the MSU Tennis Center.
MSU won its third-straight match in walk-off fashion and seventh-straight overall. After knocking off No. 8 Central Oklahoma yesterday, the Maroon and Gold rallied from an early hole to stun the Ichabods.
"This was a tough win today. Washburn is one of the best doubles programs we've faced this year without a doubt. We had different people step up.
Bianca Duff and
Greta Lazzarotto stepped up for a couple wins at the Nos. 1 & 2 lines.
Casie Curry and
Juliette Mary have embraced being in that situation with the match on the line. The girls played for each other. This was a true all-around team effort," MSU coach

Senior
Greta Lazzarotto pulled off the biggest singles upset in program history, defeating second-ranked Alexis Czapinski in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, at the No. 2 flight to put the Mustangs on the board.
The Bassano del Grappa, Italy, native joined Kayla Casey as the lone singles players to defeat a top-five opponent. Casey topped West Florida's fourth-ranked Monika Kochanova, 4-6, 6-4, 12-10 on March 17, 2015.
Junior
Bianca Duff followed with a 6-4, 7-5 upset of No. 20-ranked Jacqueline Engelbrecht to pull even at 2-2. The Geelong, Australia, native pulled off the biggest upset of her career as the Mustangs Nos. 1 & 2 players completely turned the momentum of the match.
After a loss at the No. 3 line, MSU Texas had its backs to the wall, needing wins at the Nos. 5 & 6 flights to pull off the win.
Freshman
Casie Curry went out and earned her seventh-straight win to improve to 10-0 at the No. 6 flight. The Rider High School product bested Madison Lysaught, 6-4, 6-1, to even the match at 3-all.
Junior
Juliette Mary won the last match standing for the second time in the last three contests to clinch the win. Mary fought off Svea Crohn in straight sets, 7-5, 7-5, at No. 5 to give the Mustangs their
The Mustangs fell into an early deficit after dropping the doubles competition for the first time in the last seven matches. MSU's No. 3 flight of
Lea Cizeron and Mary dropped a 6-1 decision to open the day.
Lazzarotto and Curry knocked off Crohn and Engelbrecht, 6-3, at No. 2 for the pair's eighth-straight win to push the action to the No. 1 flight.

Ashley Ramirez and Duff were unable to pull the upset against the Ichabods second-ranked tandem of Czapinski and Logan Morrissey, 6-3, to give WU the 1-0 lead.
