Lazzarotto becomes winningest doubles player in program history

THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Greta Lazzarotto surpassed Brooke Gray as Midwestern State's all-time leader with her 79th-career doubles win Saturday at the MSU Tennis Center while helping the Mustangs to a 6-1 victory over Arkansas-Fort Smith, 6-1.

Lazzarotto's record-breaking win didn't come easy as she and partner Casie Curry needed to force a tiebreaker in a come-from-behind victory against Arkansas-Fort Smith's Shaun Williams and Majella Nobile. Once in the breaker, however, it was all Mustangs to take the match and the doubles point, 7-3.

The Maroon and Gold snapped a seven-match slide of falling into a 1-0 deficit. Playing against her former team, Lea Cizeron and partner Juliette Mary rolled to a 6-0 win against Joanna Potet and Chloe Ruppanner at the No. 3 doubles flight to start the day.

The Lions never threatened in singles as the Mustangs raced out to straight-set wins on the first four courts to pick up the win.

Mary drubbed Williams, 6-2, 6-1, and Cizeron blasted Bianca Koen, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 1 to put the Maroon and Gold a point away from victory.

Junior Bianca Duff defeated Nobile, 6-3, 6-1 to give MSU Texas its ninth win of the season

Lazzarotto now turns her sights to the MSU Texas combined wins record. The Bassano del Grappa, Italy, native is seven wins from matching Lacey Wuthrich for the most combined wins in program history at 138 after taking down Potet, 6-1, 6-3, at the No. 3 singles flight.

Ramirez closed out the match, erasing a 5-4 second-set deficit to close out the contest on a high-note, 6-2, 7-5.
