STEPHENVILLE, Texas – Senior
JaJuan Starks dropped a career-high 27 in an 82-73 loss on the road to Tarleton State on Thursday at Wisdom Gym. Midwestern State suffered its sixth-straight loss overall and seventh-straight on the road to fall to 6-16 overall and 2-10 in league play.
The Fort Wayne, Ind., product shot 11-for-21 from the floor while pulling down six rebounds and handing out four assists. The senior scored in double figures for the 16
th time on the season and broke 20 for the sixth time.
Tarleton State's Corinthian Ramsey matched Starks shot-for-shot, putting up 27 for the Texans, going 8-of-13 from the floor and 5-of-9 from long range.
TSU's Jesse Hill and Josh Hawley poured in 18 and 16, respectively, as the Texans shot at a 52.8 percent clip, the second highest the Mustangs have allowed this season.
The Texans swung the momentum on a 13-1 run after Midwestern State got within four, 45-41, at the 15:29 mark in the second half. The Mustangs went five minutes without making a shot from the field during the TSU run to push the lead to 16, 58-42.
TSU hit six of its last seven shots over the final seven minutes to maintain a double-digit advantage down the stretch.
The Maroon and Gold trimmed the gap to seven, 80-73, with 30-seconds to play, but the deficit was insurmountable as the Texans hit its final free throws.
Freshman
Terrell Wilson matched a season-high with 14 for the second-straight game. The Houston native went 3-of-4 from the 3-point line and a perfect 5-of-5 at the charity stripe.
Tarleton State won its seventh-straight over the Mustangs to improve to 17-6 overall and 7-5 in LSC action.
