Johnson collects win No. 150, @WBBMSUMustangs clinch tournament berth

THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State coach Noel Johnson earned her 150th win with the Maroon and Gold in a 72-62 win over Texas Woman's on Saturday at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The MSU Texas all-time wins leader improved to 150-152 (.497) overall as the Mustangs (11-14, 8-10 LSC) secured a trip to the Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament with the victory.

Junior Liz Cathcart followed up her 20-point performance on Tuesday against Cameron with a 17-point outburst and scoring 14 of her 17 points in the second half. The Spring Branch native shot a season-high 85.7 percent (6-of-7) from the floor and matched a team-high with five rebounds.

Junior Mica Schneider continued to torch the Pioneers. After sparking the team's comeback with 17 fourth quarter points in the first meeting with TWU, Schneider added 16 points, five assists and four rebounds in Saturday's matchup. The Boerne native recorded her second-straight game with five assists and no turnovers.

Sophomores Hannah Reynolds and Kityana Diaz each added 10 points for the Mustangs.

MSU Texas raced out to an early advantage with stingy defense, holding the Pioneers to 2-for-12 from the floor in the first quarter and 6-for-20 at the intermission to take a 38-26 lead at the break.

Schneider drilled a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from the corner to end the half and push the lead to double-digits.

A 6-0 run by TWU to start the fourth quarter cut the lead to six at 54-48, but the Pioneers would never pull closer than that. The Mustangs connected on 10-of-12 free throws in the final quarter to complete the season-sweep.

KJ Startny and Ma'K'La Woods each scored 13 to lead TWU while Carissa Moody, London Archer and Macy Wilkerson added 12, 11 and nine, respectively. The starting five for the Pioneers combined for 58 of the team's 62 points.
