WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Fresh off their first Lone Star Conference win of the season, Midwestern State returns home for a Thursday night showdown with LSC foe Angelo State. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Midwestern State jumped out to a 16-4 lead after the first quarter and never looked back in a 60-41 win over Western New Mexico last Saturday.
Hannah Reynolds scored a game-high 17 points off the bench while
Elizabeth Cathcart (10 points) and
Mica Schneider (10 points) also cracked double digits.
SERIES HISTORY
Angelo State owns a 37-30 edge over Midwestern State and has won three in a row and eight of the last nine meetings. Last season, the No. 19 ranked Belles upended the Mustangs 73-62 in San Angelo. Later in the season, the No. 22 ranked Belles handed MSU an 81-62 loss in Wichita Falls. MSU's last win in the series came in December of 2017 and their last home win came in January of 2015.
RELIABLE REYNOLDS
Hannah Reynolds came off the bench to score a game-high 17 points in Midwestern State's 60-41 win at Western New Mexico on December 12. The junior was an efficient 8-of-13 from the floor and connected on her first three-pointer of the season. Reynolds is MSU's second leading scorer at 12.8 PPG.
EAZY-E
Elizabeth Cathcart scored in double figures for the sixth straight game with a 10-point effort at Western New Mexico. The senior also grabbed six rebounds and dished out two assists. Cathcart leads MSU with 14.0 PPG, a number that places her seventh in the Lone Star Conference.
PROTECT THE ROCK
Midwestern State has turned the basketball over 112 times or 18.7 times per game through the first six games of the season. MSU's season-high in turnovers in a game is 28, which came in a 75-68 win over Texas Wesleyan on November 16.
CATCHING UP WITH COACH JOHNSON
Noel Johnson is in her 12th season as the Head Coach of the Midwestern State Women's Basketball team. Last season, Johnson led MSU to a 12-16 (9-11) mark and a sixth place finish in the Lone Star Conference South Division. Overall, the Mustangs have compiled a 154-157 (.495) record under Johnson's guidance. She became the winningest coach in program history on December 19, 2017 when MSU beat Texas A&M-Kingsville, 72-66.
SCOUTING THE BELLES
Off since December 7, Angelo State comes to Wichita Falls on a three-game winning streak. The Belles defeated Texas Woman's 73-61 in their last game before final exams. ASU is led by De'Anira Moore's 16.3 PPG. The senior has scored in double figures in all but one game this season and poured in a season-high 21 points against Lubbock Christian last month. Other standout performers include Catara Samuel (13.9 PPG) and Sawyer Lloyd (10.9 PPG). Angelo State touts the highest scoring offense in the Lone Star Conference at 77.4 PPG.
