WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Riding a four game winning streak, No. 9 Midwestern State returns home on Thursday for a Lone Star Conference clash against UT Tyler. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
SERIES HISTORY
This is just the second meeting between the two programs. MSU won the only other meeting 2-0 (2018).
OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION
The Mustangs erupted for a season-high six goals last Saturday against UT Permian Basin. It marked the most goals the Mustangs had scored in a game since hanging seven on Dallas Baptist on October 17, 2015.
VENEGAS VICTIMIZING DEFENSES
Sebastian Venegas continued to torment opposing defenses as the Midwestern State Midfielder scored a goal and added two assists to lead the Mustangs to a pair of wins last week. Venegas assisted on a pair of goals in the Mustangs 4-2 win over Lubbock Christian before finding the back of the next in Saturday's 6-0 win against UT Permian Basin. The redshirt junior is riding a four-game point streak.
IN THE RANKINGS
Midwestern State soared into the top 10, moving up four spots to land at No. 9 in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll that was released on Tuesday morning. The Mustangs have appeared in the last 57 USC rankings as a ranked side dating back to the 2014 season and have received votes in the last 69 rankings dating back to 2013.
A MINUTE WITH MEACHUM
Michael Meachum kicked off his second year as Head Coach at Midwestern State with a 2-0 win over Dixie State on September 5 at Stang Park. Meachum posted a 16-1-3 mark in his first season at the helm.
SCOUTING THE PATRIOTS
After a season opening loss to Mississippi College, UT Tyler is unbeaten over their last seven games (5-0-2). The Patriots have opened Lone Star Conference play with back-to-back draws against No. 19 West Texas A&M and No. 23 Eastern New Mexico. UTT's Steven Chavez leads the club with three goals and eight points.
