CANYON, Texas – After breaking a seven match slide with an impressive four set win over UT Tyler last Saturday, Midwestern State travels to Canyon, Texas on Friday night for a clash with West Texas A&M. Match time is 6 p.m.
 
SERIES HISTORY
West Texas has posted a lopsided 36-1 mark against MSU Texas. WTAMU won the first 34 meetings before MSU finally broke through with a 3-0 win in 2017. MSU has never won in Canyon, tallying an 0-16 record.
 
EAKIN SAYS NO
Sarah Eakin recorded 13 blocks over the weekend, including seven against UT Tyler to tie a season-high (Also recorded seven blocks against Southwest Baptist on September 7). The 13 blocks is the most over a two-match stretch for the senior this season.
 
SNAPPING A SLIDE
Midwestern State earned their first Lone Star Conference win of the season last Saturday, and in the process, broke a seven match losing streak. It was the second consecutive season MSU had dropped at least seven matches in a row.
 
GHOLSON'S GOT GAME
Rockelle Gholson narrowly missed her second straight double-double and fifth of the season in Saturday's win over UT Tyler. One day after exploding for 15 kills and 19 digs against No. 20 Texas A&M-Commerce, Gholson notched nine kills and 10 digs against Lone Star Conference newcomer UT Tyler.
 
SCOUTING THE LADY BUFFS
West Texas A&M earned their fourth straight win on Tuesday night, blanking Eastern New Mexico 3-0. The Lady Buffs hold a 5-1 mark at home and are a perfect 16-0 all-time at home against MSU. Torrey Miller leads WTAMU with 194 kills (4.22/set).
 
COACH'S CORNER
Valerie Armstrong began her second season as Head Coach of the Midwestern State Volleyball team with a thrilling five-set win over Western State (Colorado) on September 6. In her first season at the helm, the Mustangs posted a 5-23 record and a 3-17 mark in the Lone Star Conference.
 
UP NEXT
A quick turnaround as the Mustangs take on Eastern New Mexico on Saturday in Portales. Match time is set for 12 p.m.
