LUBBOCK, Texas – Midwestern State suffered a 7-0 loss in its exhibition opener on Friday against NCAA Division I Wyoming at the McLeod Tennis Center in Lubbock.
 
The Cowgirls took an early 1-0 advantage by winning the first two doubles courts. The tandem of Greta Lazzarotto and Taylor Gray suffered a 6-1 loss at No. 3 to Maria Oreshkina and Ana Royo to open the match before the duo of Ida Krause and Mihaela Kaftanova toppled Bianca Duff and Casie Curry, 6-4, at No. 2.
 
The Mustangs All-American pair of Maddy Coffman and Ashley Ramirez won in a tiebreaker against Elisa Koonik and Tessa van der Ploeg, 7-6, at No. 1.
 
In an exhibition meeting, MSU Texas Lea Cizeron and Juliette Mary suffered a 6-4 loss to Jieyi Chen and Ana Fernandez.
 
UW recorded straight-set wins on four courts in singles to clinch the match. Duff fell to Koonik, 6-3, 6-1, at No. 2 to extend the Cowgirls lead to 2-0. Van der Ploeg upset 16^th-ranked Coffman at No. 1, 6-2, 6-2, to push the advantage to 3-0. Royo clinched the match with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ramirez at No. 5.
 
To close out the contest, Curry was bested by Kaftanova, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 6 while Fernandez ousted Lazzarotto in a three-set affair, 4-6, 6-3, 10-7. Cizeron battled through a super-set in the third before faltering to Oreshkina, 6-3, 6-7, 11-9, at No. 3.
 
Gray earned her first win with the Maroon and Gold in an exhibition match with Chen, 6-3, 6-3, while Krause knocked off Mary, 6-1, 6-4.
