THE RUNDOWN
ODESSA, Texas – Freshman Senna Garcia scored her team-leading third goal of the season and freshman Emma Baley dished out her second assist as Midwestern State snapped a four-match losing streak with a 2-0 rout at UT Permian Basin.

A dominant defensive performance helped the Mustangs improve to 2-4-1 overall and pull even in Lone Star Conference play at 1-1. MSU Texas limited the Falcons to two shots in the contest.

The Maroon and Gold wasted no time in breaking the scoring seal after a scoreless first half. Sophomore Kelly Cannistra found Garcia in the right wing who chipped the ball inside the left post.

The Mustangs extended the lead to 2-0 midway through the second half. Sophomore Julia Orozco placed a through-ball past the defense, picking up sophomore Tayler Schott on a breakaway. The Texas A&M International transplant beat Falcons keeper RaeAnn Brown in the one-on-one matchup to stretch the lead.

MSU Texas added insult to injury with a final goal in the 87th-minute. Baley lofted a ball into the box on a free kick before Heather Vanderloo found the back of the net for the first time this season.

Freshman keeper Samantha Upton earned her first career clean sheet, making one save in the contest.
