KEARNEY, Neb. – Sophomore
Jaycie Fuller set a pair of season highs, but Midwestern State suffered a pair of 3-0 losses to Newman (16-25, 20-25, 12-25) and fifth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney (17-25, 9-25, 20-25).
The Arkansas-Fort Smith transplant logged eight digs in the first match before besting her season-high with a 13-dig outing against UNK.
MATCH ONE – NU 3, MSU TEXAS 0
The Maroon and Gold committed 27 attack errors resulting in a sweep (16-25, 20-25, 12-25) at the hands of Newman in their first match of the tournament. MSU Texas combined to hit a season-low -.056 in the contest.
Redshirt freshman
Addy Cook came two kills and one dig shy of her second-career double-double. Sophomore
Raven Presley added five kills and four blocks to pace the Mustangs offensively. Redshirt sophomore
Sarah Glawe distributed 13 assists while junior
Erin Richburg led the team with 10 digs.
MSU Texas came close to swinging the momentum of the match late in the second set. Both teams played relatively even through the first 40 points, but a 6-2 run by the Jets gave NU a lead that proved too great to overcome.
Newman opened the third frame on a 12-3 run, finishing with an even .300 hitting percentage with only three errors.
The Jets' Trinity Conley led all players with nine kills.
MATCH TWO – UNK 3, MSU TEXAS 0
After pulling off an upset of the nation's 16
th-ranked team last weekend, the Mustangs tried to up the ante with fifth-ranked Nebraska-Kearney. The Maroon and Gold didn't fare as well this time around, suffering a sweep at the hands of the Lopers who won their 57
th-consecutive home match.
Richburg led the Maroon and White with seven kills, closely followed by Presley with six. Junior
Sarah Eakin tallied six blocks and Fuller bested her season-high with 13 digs.
MATCH ONE NOTES
- The 21 kills, -.056 attack percentage and 29.0 were all season-lows for MSU Texas
- Defensively, the Mustangs averaged a season-best 15.33 digs per set
