Williams provides fireworks to propel @MSUWSoc past NMHU in OT

THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Sophomore Madison Williams scored the game winner on a breakaway goal just 20 seconds into overtime as Midwestern State won its season-opener against New Mexico Highlands in dramatic fashion, 2-1.

The Richardson native broke free down the right-side before sophomore Kelly Cannistra and redshirt junior Imani Morlock found her with a pair of one-touches in front of the right post, drilling the game-winner.

First year coach Ryan Spence joined Jeff Trimble, Nathan Pifer and Darrin Hedges as MSU coaches to win their debut.

Freshman Senna Garcia broke the scoring seal in the 18th-minute. Fellow freshman Emma Baley found Garcia with a high-cross from the right-side before Garcia finished with her foot to stake the Mustangs a lead.

The Cowgirls netted the equalizer midway through the second half. Tania Salcedo hit a cross that trickled across the line to even the game at one.

MSU Texas threatened several times in the second half, but was unable to regain the lead in regulation. The Mustangs wasted no time in the extra period, striking quickly to end the contest.

Freshman Samantha Upton made four saves in her collegiate debut to earn the win.
