FIRST SERVE: 12th-ranked Midwestern State travels to Abilene Christian on Friday for an exhibition contest with the Division I Wildcats before opening up Lone Star Conference play at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday. First serve is slated for 4 p.m. and 2 p.m., respectively. The Mustangs are coming off a 7-2 setback to then-No. 8 St. Mary's on the road in San Antonio.

MUSTANGS SLIDE TO 12th IN POLLS: After suffering a 7-2 setback to then-No. 8 St. Mary's on the road last weekend, Midwestern State slid back a spot to No. 12 in the Oracle/ITA rankings on Wednesday. The previous No. 11 ranking was the highest ever received by the Maroon and Gold.

DUFF/COFFMAN DUO REIGNS: The tandem of junior Maddy Coffman and sophomore Bianca Duff earned a No. 5 ranking after the fall season and a strong 2017 campaign. Last weekend, MSU's pair dropped a tough 9-7 decision to St. Mary's ninth-ranked team of Kaylin Kruseman and Tyra Timm to open the season. Coffman and Duff went 24-4 overall. In singles, Duff avenged her doubles loss, taking a three-set match from Timm, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5.

WILDCAT OFFENSE: Abilene Christian enters the exhibition contest with a 4-3 overall record. Nini Memishishi boasts a 5-1 singles record in the spring while Lucile Pothier has gone 3-1 at the No. 1 singles line. In doubles, the Wildcats have gone a combined 9-3 at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. The tandem of Sarah Adams and Whitney Williams owns a 4-2 record at No. 1 doubles and the duo of Memishishi/Pothier has gone 4-1 at No. 2 in pairs play.

BRINGING HOME THE BACON: Texas A&M-Kingsville opens LSC play with a 3-3 record overall, winning three-straight matches including a 5-4 upset of then-13th-ranked Central Oklahoma. The Javelinas began the season as the No. 7 team in the South Central region. Laura Montalvo leads TAMUK with a 4-1 singles record, winning her last four matches. The duo of Viviana Ortiz and Phonephathep Philavong owns a 3-3 record at the No. 3 doubles position.
