MUSTANGS NOTES

FIRST SERVE: 11th-ranked Midwestern State concludes preseason exhibition play on Friday against 20th-ranked JUCO Laredo Community College before opening the season against eighth-ranked St. Mary's on Saturday. The Mustangs are coming off a sweep of No. 12 Collin College two weeks ago.

RECORD RANKING: The No. 11 ranking was the highest ever received by the Maroon and Gold. MSU brings back six players from last year's 23-5 squad that advanced to the National Quarterfinals.

PANFEROVA TOP-20 IN SINGLES: Senior Daria Panferova closed the fall season with a No. 20 individual ranking in singles. The Russian went 14-8, all at the No. 1 singles line and added a 22-6 mark in pairs play.

DUFF/COFFMAN DUO REIGNS: The tandem of junior Maddy Coffman and sophomore Bianca Duff earned a No. 5 ranking after the fall season and a strong 2017 campaign. The duo went 24-4 overall, including a perfect 11-0 at No. 2. In singles, Coffman tacked on 22 wins while Duff added 17.

PONY UP: Laredo Community College is coming off a 1-8 season a year ago and returns five players from that squad. Earlier this season, the Palominos took a 9-0 loss against the Rattlers, winning four combined games in singles and getting swept across the board in the second set. LCC played without a No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.

RATTLERS LOOK FOR SIXTH-STRAIGHT HEARTLAND TITLE: St. Mary's enters the weekend with an unblemished 4-0 record and has been extremely strong through the early goings. In singles, the Rattlers are a combined 20-3, led by 48th-ranked Kaylin Kruseman with a 4-0 record at No. 1. St. Mary's has yet to lose a doubles match this season, going 12-0. Kruseman and Tyra Timm pair together for the ninth-ranked duo in D2, earning a 3-0 record at the No. 1 line.
