Rabb is Google Cloud Academic All-American

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State senior quarterback Layton Rabb garnered Google Cloud Academic All-America™ honors Tuesday afternoon as selected by the Collegiate Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Rabb led the Mustangs to an 8-2 record leading the Lone Star Conference with 3,114 passing yards with 29 touchdowns this season ranking in the Top 10 in all of NCAA Division II in passing TDs, passing yards, passing yards per game, points responsible for and total offense.

The Llano native closed his career second in program history with 6,399 yards with 63 touchdowns.

Rabb becomes the third MSU Texas football student-athlete to earn academic all-America honors joining Corby Walker (1994, 1995) and Tyler Maner (2011). He is the second Midwestern State football student-athlete to earn first-team honors joining Walker, who attained the accolade in 1995.

He is the fifth overall student-athlete in school history to garnered first-team Academic All-America status along with Walker, volleyball's Mandy Pinkerton in 1998, men's soccer's Tyler Murphy in 2009 and softball's Lauren Craig in 2010.

The 6-5, 225-pound signal caller passed for 300 yards 10 times over the past two seasons earning Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors six times.

In the classroom, Rabb boasts a 3.73 grade-point average graduating with a finance degree in the spring. He has made the Lone Star Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll following seven semesters and was a member of the 2017 LSC All-Academic team.

The Google Cloud Academic All-District™ Teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom. The teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada.

This is the eighth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, Division II and Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
