THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas –
Julia Orozco and
Tatum Sharp each scored their first goal of the season as Midwestern State was unable to overcome an early 3-0 hole to Texas A&M-Commerce on a dreary Monday afternoon at the MSU Soccer Practice Field.
The Lions staked themselves a 2-0 lead after the first nine minutes of action with goals from Michelle Kotlik and Kara Blasingame in the seventh and ninth minute. A&M-C extended the lead to 3-0 in the 23
rd minute on a through-ball from Kotlik to Sabrina Munguia at the right post.
The comeback bid by the Mustangs started in the final minute of the first half to get MSU Texas on the scoreboard.
Madison Davis flicked the ball into the box from the right wing, finding the foot of Orozco before sneaking into the back of the net to cut the deficit to 3-1.
The Maroon and Gold pulled within one midway through the second half.
Kelly Cannistra dribbled the ball into the right wing and in front of the goal, hitting Sharp with a soft cross to give the sophomore her first goal of the season.
MSU Texas posed one more scoring threat in the final five minutes of the contest as
Madison Williams fired a long shot from 25-yards out, but Lions keeper Caitlin Duty went up to make the save.
Sophomore
McKenna Williams made a pair of saves, but the three early goals proved to be too much to overcome for the Maroon and Gold.
