WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- A mis-handled snap on a point-after attempt in overtime is that separated No. 10 Midwestern State from No. 8 Tarleton State as the Mustangs fell 35-34 Saturday night at Memorial Stadium.
 
MSU Texas which suffered its second one-point loss of the season fell to 6-2 on the season and 4-2 in the Lone Star Conference. The Mustangs take on Western New Mexico Saturday afternoon in Silver City. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. (Central Time).
 
In a game of momentum swings, Midwestern State used a six-play, 59-yard drive scoring on Layton Rabb's 23-yard strike to Juwan Johnson on 4th-and-7 with 54 seconds to play. Jacob Rowland tacked on the extra point to send the game to overtime.
 
Johnson hit the century mark for the seventh straight game going for 123 yards on nine receptions. He becomes the third receiver to amass 1,000 yards with 1,025 yards on 59 catches which is the third most in program history behind Andy Tanner (1,186 yards/2009) and Bryan Gilmore (1,139 yards/1998). He added 35 yards on five carries.
 
Rabb connected on 29 passes on a program-record 61 pass attempts for 300 yards and two touchdowns.
 
Tarleton State grabbed the lead in overtime on a Ben Holmes-to-J.F.  Thomas 23-yard strike and converted the point-after attempt for a 35-28 lead.
 
Rabb answered with a 9-yard scoring strike to Xavier Land on 4th-and-7, but the Mustangs were unable to put the ball down on the extra point try ending the game.
 
Midwestern State used to strong first which included 10-yard scoring run by Tyrique Edwards in the first quarter before Rabb and Vincent Johnson scored on runs of 5 and 1 yards in the second as the Mustangs took a 21-13 halftime lead.
 
Xavier Turner churned out 214 yards on 36 carries as Tarleton State amassed 343 rushing yards and surged to a 28-21 lead on scoring runs by Ben Holmes (2) and Adam Berryman (3) in the second half before the Mustangs responded to send the game to overtime.
 
Senior safety Josh Wydermyer led the MSU Texas defense with 17 tackles, while junior linebacker Tristan Shearman added 10.
