THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State surrendered an own goal in overtime to break a 1-1 draw with UT Permian Basin on Friday at the MSU Soccer Practice Field.
The Mustangs dominated the play from the field, outshooting the Falcons, 18-1, but the overtime miscue cost the Maroon and Gold.
A cross into the box kicked off the heel of MSU's
Imani Morlock and into the goal to lift the Falcons to the win.
Freshman
Randi Heaton staked MSU Texas to an early lead with her first career goal. After
Julia Orozco drew a foul in the penalty box, Heaton buried the penalty kick, beating UTPB keeper Raeann Garcia to the right.
UTPB answered in the 59th minute as Caitlin Gomez drilled a shot from the top of the penalty box for the equalizer.
MSU Texas missed a scoring opportunity just two minutes later as Orozco's header caromed off the crossbar. The sophomore led the Mustangs with a season-high six shots, including three of the seven shots on goal for the Maroon and Gold.
