CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M's Selena Batiste recorded a triple double on 14 kills, 18 assists and 12 digs as the Lady Buffs swept Midwestern State on Friday evening at The Box in Canyon. Batiste combined with Sydnee Johnson (15 kills) for 29 of the team's 49 kills in the three-set win.
The Mustangs (3-17, 1-11 LSC) were led offensively by freshman
Lauren Honeycutt, hitting a season-best .533 with eight kills, four digs and three blocks. Junior
Sarah Eakin continued to anchor the middle for the Maroon and Gold, registering four blocks while freshmen
Samantha Manio and
Addy Cook each had 10 digs.
Sophomore
Sarah Glawe distributed 24 assists to move past Hayden Blair for 13
th on the all-time list. The Allen native has dished out 760 helpers in three years in the Maroon and Gold.
Trailing 10-8 in the first set, WT mounted a 17-7 run to close out the first set, 25-17. Johnson hit .600 in the opening frame for the Lady Buffs who combined for a .316 swing percentage while committing only four errors. Honeycutt provided much of the offense for MSU Texas in the opening set, hitting .800 with four kills.
The Maroon and Gold stormed back in the second set, pulling within one at 22-21. Eakin logged all three of her assisted blocks, but a kill from Batiste and a ball handling error gave WT a 2-0 advantage.
MSU Texas claimed a 15-10 advantage in the third set before a big run from the Lady Buffs ended the match. WT mounted a 15-3 rally with 10 kills to clinch the contest.
