WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Behind an efficient offensive attack with just nine hitting errors, Midwestern State swept past Texas Woman's Friday night to earn its first win over the Pioneers since 2010 with a 3-0 victory inside D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
Midwestern State (8-6, 3-3 LSC) used sizeable runs in each of the three sets while hitting .286 for the match and holding Texas Woman's (4-9, 2-3 LSC) to a .104 hitting percentage.
In the opening set, the Pioneers committed 11 hitting errors for a -.023 percentage while the Mustangs finished with a .216 hitting clip. MSU opened up an early 5-1 lead to hold a slight edge over the Pioneers before putting together a 10-4 run to claim a 21-12 advantage.
Meghan Bettis recorded three kills in the frame to lead MSU to a 25-18 victory.
Rockelle Gholson tallied five kills while Bettis (4) and
Sarah Eakin (3) were also top contributors for the MSU offense in the second set. MSU went on a 9-1 run while hitting .433 in the set to break an 11-11 tie before claiming a 25-19 win.
Bettis' five kills paced the Mustangs in the third and final set with MSU going on a 10-2 spurt to move in front at 20-12. The Pioneers rallied with five-straight points, but the Mustangs followed with three quick points to regain the momentum before earning the sweep with a 25-19 victory.
