Doney delivers two scores to lead No. 6 @MSUMustangsFC to 2-0 shutout over Newman

THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Senior forward Scott Doney recorded his third multiple-goal outing of the season with a pair of scores in the final 18 minutes to propel No. 6 Midwestern State to a 2-0 victory over Newman (Kan.) Saturday evening at Stang Park.

The striker from Tauranga, New Zealand accounted for all four of Midwestern State's (8-0, 4-0 HC) goals on the weekend to extend MSU's win streak to eight games for its best start since the 2010 season.

The Mustangs were held to just one shot on goal for 70-plus minutes before Doney struck at the 72:50 mark with a header goal off a corner kick from freshman Carlos Flores for a 1-0 lead.

Doney took advantage of MSU's fifth and final corner kick of the night from sophomore Ross Fitzpatrick in the 79th minute with another header from the middle of the box to give the Mustangs some cushion with 11:58 to play.

The Mustangs defense was resilient once again, holding Newman (2-5-1, 0-4 HC) to just three shot attempts on the night with two on frame en route to collecting their sixth clean sheet of the season.
