Doney scores in 24th minute, nets golden goal to carry No. 6 @MSUMustangsFC past Rogers State

THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Just two days after the passing of Midwestern State football player Robert Grays, senior forward Scott Doney honored the Mustang in a memorable way Thursday evening by scoring his first goal in the 24th minute before pushing sixth-ranked Midwestern State to a 2-1 overtime victory over Rogers State (Okla.) with a golden goal in the 95th minute.

Doney and the Mustangs celebrated the first strike that lifted Midwestern State (7-0, 3-0 HC) to a 1-0 lead by running towards the sidelines and holding up the numbers "2" and "4" to honor Grays.

Nearing the midway point of the first overtime, a cross sent into the middle of the box by sophomore Sebastian Venegas found Doney for his second multiple-goal performance of the season, pushing his yearly total to six goals and carrying the Mustangs to their seventh-straight victory.

Venegas recorded two assists on the evening, setting up Doney's first goal with a free kick from 35 yards out.

Thursday's golden goal was Doney's second in the last three games, propelling MSU to a 1-0 win in the 95th minute last Thursday at West Texas A&M with a strike from inside the box off a throw in.

Rogers State (5-2, 2-1 HC) evened the match at the 53:35 mark with an own goal off a free kick, just the second score against the Mustangs defense this season.
