THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas
– In front of 1,085 fans, sixth-ranked Midwestern State did not disappoint in its 2017 season opener Friday evening at Stang Park as the Mustangs collected a 3-0 victory over regional foe Fort Lewis (Colo.) with scores from three different newcomers.

In the 21st minute, senior Scott Doney netted the first goal of the year for the Maroon and Gold with a strike from the middle of the box off assists from Sebastian Venegas and Alex Mullet.

Midwestern State (1-0) added a pair of insurance goals in the second half with freshman Carlos Flores delivering a rocket into the right corner of the net off a pass from Alex Dimitriu to give the Mustangs a 2-0 advantage in the 56th minute.

Redshirt sophomore Koby Sapon-Amoah rounded out the scoring for the Mustangs with a header goal in the 74th minute off a cross from Flores for the 3-0 final.

With three returning starters leading the Mustangs defense, Fort Lewis (0-1) was limited to just five shot attempts with redshirt freshman Taylor Lampe earning the win in goal in his first career match.
