MIDLAND, Texas – Midwestern State put a halt to a two-match losing skid Friday morning with a 7-2 victory over UT Permian Basin in Lone Star Conference action at the Bush Tennis Center.
No. 21 Midwestern State (13-8, 1-1 LSC) jumped out to a 2-1 advantage following doubles with wins on courts two and three. Chris and
Denney Norrie put the Mustangs on the board first with an 8-3 victory at No. 3 doubles before UT Permian Basin (6-6, 0-2 LSC) evened the match with an 8-3 win at No. 1 from Raul Stevens and Jordan Minjoot. MSU closed out doubles play with
Dylan Hall and
Angel Palacios collecting an 8-4 result at No. 2.
In singles,
Dillon Pineda and
Joshua Sundaram posted straight-set wins on courts three and six, respectively, to extend the MSU lead to 4-1 before
Chris Norrie recorded the clincher for the Mustangs with a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 4.
The Falcons earned their lone singles win of the day on court one with Stevens defeating Palacios, 7-6 (3), 6-2.
Denney Norrie followed with a super tiebreaker win at No. 5 singles before Hall concluded the match with a three-set victory at No. 2 for the 7-2 final.
Midwestern State continues its western road trip tomorrow with a 9 a.m. (CST) matchup against No. 26 Western New Mexico at the WNMU Tennis Courts in Silver City.
