BOLIVAR, Mo. - Midwestern State handed No. 11 Southwest Baptist (Mo.) its first loss Saturday afternoon with a 5-4 victory at the John A. Bryant Tennis Center for its first win over a nationally-ranked program this season.

The 21st-ranked Mustangs (4-1) started the day by claiming two out of three doubles points behind sophomore Maddy Coffman and freshman Bianca Duff's 8-0 win at the No. 2 spot over Klara Vichov and Sarah Brown. On court three, freshman Ashley Ramirez and sophomore Greta Lazzarotto handed Lucia Diaz and Beatrix Federer an 8-3 loss.

Southwest Baptist (6-1) avoided the doubles sweep with Lara Soares and Lani Tuemmers grinding out a 9-7 win over juniors Amy Clifton and Daria Panferova at No. 1.

The Mustangs struck first in singles with Duff defeating Tuemmers, 6-4, 6-1, on court two and sophomore Eirini Kontaki coasting to a 6-2, 6-2 win over Diaz at No. 3 singles.

Southwest Baptist fought back with 46th-ranked Soares handing Panferova a 7-6, 6-0 loss at No. 1, but Ramirez clinched the match for Midwestern State with a 6-3, 7-5 score over Federer on court six soon after.

The Bearcats added two more points to the board with third set wins at the No. 4 and No. 5 spots.

Midwestern State returns to the court Tuesday to open Lone Star Conference play against Tarleton State at the MSU Tennis Center. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
