- Midwestern State is looking to start 3-0 in Lone Star Conference play for the first time since 2014-15 when the Mustangs rolled to 4-0 before finishing 12-4 in league play.
- The Mustangs can win their third consecutive game for the second time this season with a victory over Angelo State.
- Thursday game at St. Mary's is MSU's second true road game of the season. The Mustangs beat St. Mary's 62-47 in their other road game this season. MSU was 4-7 on the road last season.
- MSU leads the Lone Star Conference grabbing 16.3 offensive rebounds per game resulting in 12.3 second chance points per game.
- The Mustangs are fourth in the league in rebound margin at +5.7 and have won the rebound battle in each of their last six games.
- Senior guard Whitney Taylor leads MSU scoring at 11.1 points per game. The Melissa, Texas native shoots 34.2 percent from the field ranking fourth in the LSC with 2.3 made triples per game.
- Taylor is tied for third on MSU's all-time 3-point makes list with Kristin Ramsey (125 3s/2000-04). She now has 125 career 3s and trails Lisa Hampton (154 3s/2011-15) and Andrea Buben (132 3s/2006-10) at the top of MSU's made 3-point field goal list.
- Senior forward Micheline Mercelita is second on the team scoring 7.6 points a game with leading the club with 6.3 boards a game ranking 11th in the LSC. She notched a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds against Oklahoma Christian.
- Junior forward Chelsea Adams is third on the team in scoring with 6.0 points to go along with 3.7 rebounds per game. She scored a season-high 16 points on 7-of-8 shooting with a 3-poitners in MSU's win over Tarleton State on Dec. 2nd.
- Freshman forward Hannah Reynolds claimed Ashbrook Classic all-tournament team honors after averaging 11 points and 3.5 rebounds in her first two collegiate games. She is fourth on the team in scoring at 5.9 points per game.
- Reynolds is the first MSU freshman since Shatoia Gober (to score in double figures in her first two collegiate games. Gober scored 10-or-more points in the first three games of the 2011-12 season.
- Senior guard Kristin Rydell matched a season high with nine points and grabbed eight rebounds in Saturday's win over Texas A&M-Commerce. The Hutto native raised her scoring average to 5.7 points per game.
- Sophomore Liz Cathcart scored six points and snagged five rebounds in 19 minutes Saturday against Texas A&M-Commerce. She is averaging 5.6 points and 4.4 rebounds in 16 minutes a game this season.
- Sophomore Mica Schneider scored a season-high nine points in both games last weekend against Tarleton State and Texas A&M-Commerce to raise her season averages to 5.1 points and 2.7 rebounds in 15 minutes per game.
- Ten players carry averages of 5.0 points or better through the season's first seven games including Taylor (11.1), Mercelita (7.6), Adams (6.0), Reynolds (5.9), Rydell (5.7), Cathcart (5.6), senior guard Jasmine Richardson (5.3), junior guard Chelcie Kizart (5.3), Schneider (5.1) and senior forward Avery Queen (5.0).
- Noel Johnson is in her 10th season at the helm of the MSU women's basketball program with an overall record of 131-126 (.510). Under Johnson's guidance, the Mustangs claimed the 2013 Lone Star Conference Championship advancing to the NCAA postseason three consecutive seasons from 2013-15.
- MSU was picked to finish ninth in the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll of coaches, sports information directors and selected media.
- Midwestern State and Angelo State meet for the 64th time on the hardwood Thursday night at Junell Center/Stephens Arena.
- The Rambelles own a 34-29 edge in the series which dates back to the 1978-79 season and have won the last five games of the series including season sweeps in each of the last two years.
- MSU's last win over Angelo State was a 69-61 victory on Jan. 21, 2015 which was the end of a four-game winning streak.
- The Rambelles have won the last three games against MSU at the Junell Center with the Mustangs last victory coming on Jan. 22, 2014 by a 67-63 margin.
- Midwestern State is 6-23 all-time in San Angelo including a 2-14 run against Angelo State at the Junell Center. The Mustangs claimed consecutive wins over ASU on the road in 2013-14 (69-59) and 2014-15 (67-63).
- Angelo State has won its last three games after taking its only loss of the season against Fort Lewis (57-56).
- The Rambelles rank second in the LSC in scoring margin at +13.2 points per game. ASU is second in scoring (69.4) and scoring defense (56.2).
- Five ASU players average in double figures including De'Anira Moore (12.6 points, 11 rebounds), Madi Greenwood (12.4 points, 4.0 rebounds), Keanna Kelly (12.0 points, 5.6 rebounds), Dezirae Hampton (11.6 points, 7.2 rebounds) and Marquita Daniels (11.0 points, 3.0 rebounds).
- Renae Shippy is in her first season as head coach at Angelo State after spending the last two seasons under Kevin Baker. The Rambelles were 50-14 over the last two seasons.
