@MWSUVball thumps Cameron in 3, eyes winning season

THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS Meghan Bettis continued her late season surge to lead Midwestern State to a 3-0 win (25-18, 25-18, 25-14) in Lone Star Conference play Thursday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The senior from Dripping Springs pounded a match-high 15 kills with just three errors to hit .414 as the Mustangs evened their season record at 15-15.

MSU is in position to clinch its first winning season since 2013 if the Mustangs beat Texas A&M-Kingsville in the season finale Friday night under the dome. First service is set for 7 p.m.

On the heels of her career-best, 23-kill performance Tuesday at Dallas Baptist, Bettis pushed her career kill total to 925. She needs seven kills to move past Caitlin Wallace (931 kills/2010-13) into the Top 10 on MSU's all-time list.

Fellow senior Aerielle Edwards played her second consecutive match at outside hitter and once again stood out. She finished with 10 kills with two errors as the Mustangs hit better than .300 for just the second time this season.

The Mustangs were just good at the net where freshman Raven Presley had seven total blocks while efficiently putting away seven kills on 15 tries with two errors for a .333 hitting percentage.

Sophomore Sarah Eakin was nearly as good finishing seven kills and six total blocks hitting .312, while senior Addison Semer also had seven kills with a block while hitting a robust .545.

Senior Kristian Aduddell amassed 41 set assists with six digs directing the offense to a .318 team hitting percentage, while fellow senior Leah Lychock made 13 digs to lead back row efforts.

Cameron dropped its sixth consecutive match to fall to 7-21 and 3-16.

NOTES
- Midwestern State's team hitting percentage of .318 was it second best of the season. The Mustangs hit .353 earlier this season against Southern Arkansas.
- Bettis posted back-to-back 10-kill performances for the fourth time this season. Her .414 hitting percentage was the best this season in a game where she had at least 10 attacks.
- Freshman Raven Presley has at least five total blocks in three consecutive matches for the first time this season. The Richardson High product is averaging 1.55 blocks per set over the last three matches raising her season average to 1.05.
- Senior Leah Lychock recorded 13 digs in her second consecutive match at libero. She also matched a season high with four service aces.
- Senior setter Kristan Aduddell has matches with 60 and 41 set assists since returning from an ankle injury suffered against Tarleton State on Nov. 3rd. That's an average of 12.63 assists per set during the run.
- Junior Rockelle Gholson notched her second straight and ninth double-digit dig performance of the season with 12 against Cameron. She also delivered a stirring rendition of the Star Spangled Banner for the second time this season prior to the match.
