Eastern New Mexico stuns @MustangsWSoccer, 4-0

THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS – By any metric, the result wasn't pretty for Midwestern State in the Lone Star Conference quarterfinal round Wednesday night at Stang Park.

Eastern New Mexico got off to a quick start then buried the Mustangs with three second half goals in a 4-0 demolition to advance to Friday night's semifinal against top-seeded Angelo State. The match is set for 7:30 p.m. at the ASU Soccer Field.

Meanwhile, the Mustangs await possible selection into the NCAA Division II championship Monday night via a video stream on NCAA.com.

The loss was the lopsided in MSU's extensive history in the LSC Postseason Tournament. The goals against were also the most permitted in a single tournament game by the Mustangs.

ENMU, which improved to 5-8-6, received a fortunate bounce off of a corner kick chance in the second minute of the game. MSU freshman Savannah Alford's attempted clear in front of the far post deflected off of a teammate, but goalkeeper Courtney Burnette was unable to secure the carom. The ball landed Kenya Brooke's feet, who buried her first goal of the season into an empty net.

The Mustangs remained within striking distance through the beginning of the second half placing seven of 12 shots on frame for the game.

But ENMU pushed the advantage to two just minutes into the second half.

Sophomore midfielder Ariel Lopez's long through ball found its mark onto a running Erin McAnarney, who tallied her first goal of the season in the 52nd minute.

Brooke locked up her brace in the 74th minute on another long through ball from Samantha Fabela before Caitlyn Schmidt closed the ledger on Lopez's second assist in the 83rd minute.

Midwestern State dropped its fourth consecutive decision to fall to 11-7-1.
