@MustangsWSoccer plays Greyhounds to scoreless draw in New Mexico

THE RUNDOWN
PORTALES, N.M. – Midwestern State was held scoreless for just the third time this season in a 0-0 draw against Eastern New Mexico to wrap up a lengthy five-game road stretch Sunday afternoon at Greyhound Stadium.

Midwestern State (8-3-1, 3-2-1 LSC) matched a season-high 16 shots but was unable to put an attempt across with five shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Courtney Burnette tallied her seventh shutout of the season while reaching 30 clean sheets for her career to extend her MSU record.

After being held to just two shots in the opening half, the Mustangs fired off nine attempts in the second period. Eastern New Mexico's (2-6-4, 1-3-2 LSC) Alejandra Camarillo stopped MSU's lone shot on frame in Brandy Villasana's shot in the 51st minute.

In the extra period, Burnette collected four of her seven saves on the afternoon while Savannah Alford and Julia Orozco placed shots on goal in the final 20 minutes for the Mustangs.

QUOTE OF THE MATCH
"I think we really showed our character today. We came back from a difficult loss on the road Friday and were able to come away with a result. "We had a couple of great opportunities that we just didn't have the legs to put it away. Courtney (Burnette) had a great 1v1 save that kept us in the game, and we had an entire freshman back line out there for most of the match that didn't give up a goal in a game of this importance." - Head coach Damian Clarke

UP NEXT
