THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA, Kan. – Newman converted a second half penalty kick to record its first-ever win over No. 23 Midwestern State in a 1-0 victory for the Jets Sunday afternoon at Bishop Carroll High School.
After nearly 70 minutes of action yesterday, weather forced the teams to rule the game a no contest and restart Sunday.
In the 64th minute, Luca Anelli was fouled in the box to set up penalty kick for Newman (5-2-1, 3-0-1 HC) at the 63:46 mark. Marian Saar delivered the kick for the Jets to break a scoreless contest with a shot into the far left corner of the net.
Midwestern State (5-2-1, 3-1-0 HC) outshot Newman 13-3 with a 5-1 edge in shots on goal but the Mustangs were unable to record the equalizer with
Flavio Guzman tallying the lone shot on goal for MSU in the final 30 minutes of play.

*Newman walked away with its first win over Midwestern State in the ninth meeting between the two teams since 1989
*The Mustangs were shutout for the third time this season, the most shutouts for MSU since 2013
