WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 11 Midwestern State just couldn't get it going Sunday night at Memorial Stadium.
At least, until MSU fell behind. Then the Mustangs peeled off the final 21 points to roll to a 42-24 win over Oklahoma Panhandle State.
The game was originally postponed Saturday night due to lightning and torrential rainfall and resumed Sunday afternoon.
Oklahoma Panhandle State reeled off 17 consecutive points of its own to take a 24-21 lead after Sterling Claphan connected on a 22-yard field goal with 11:49 to play in the third quarter.
The Mustangs rolled out to a 14-7 lead prior to the lightning strike Saturday powered by a pair of
Vincent Johnson touchdown runs (6, 1) before OPSU answered with a Shane Truelove-to-Andrew Hernandez scoring strike with 9:28 to play in the opening period. Following the ensuing kickoff, the game was delayed.
Quade Coward kickstarted MSU's comeback effort hitting true freshman
Bryce Martinez on a crossing rout for a 40-yard touchdown as the Mustangs regained the lead for good at 28-24.
Sophomore
Adrian Seales finished off a 10-play, 85-yard drive with a 2-yard scoring plunge to push the lead to 35-24 with 10:05 to play.
Coward capped off the scoring with his second touchdown pass of the day hitting
Statron Jones on a bubble screen before Jones raced 73 yards for a TD.
NOTES
* Midwestern State has trailed in all three games this season and in nine straight dating back to last season.
* Sophomore running back
Adrian Seales is the third MSU running back to rush for more than 100 yards this season finsihing with 103 yards on 17 carries.

Vincent Johnson, who finished with 79 yards on 13 carries, ran for multiple touchdowns for the third straight week. He had three touchdowns in previous wins over Truman State and Texas A&M-Kingsville. He now has eight on the season.

Sir'Vell Ford intercepted two passes -- one in the end zone -- and junior
Steven Rogers snag another interception -- also in the end zone. The Mustangs have intercepted three passes in the end zone over past two weeks.
* Freshman
Robert Grays returned the game opening kickoff for 73 yards. It was the seventh longest kick return in program history and the longest since
Don Jerry went 91 yards for a touchdown against Texas A&M-Kingsville (10/31/15).
* The Midwestern State defense limited OPSU to three touchdowns in seven red zone chances after limiting Texas A&M-Kingsville to two TDs in five chances last week.
* Ford paced the Mustangs with 11 tackles to go long with his two interceptions.
STAT OF THE GAME
21-0Â Midwestern State outscored Oklahoma Panhandle State 21-0 after falling behind 24-21 just over three minutes into the second half. The Mustangs have trailed in nine consecutive games, but are 7-2 during the stretch.
NEXT GAME
Midwestern State takes on Western New Mexico in a Lone Star Conference game Saturday at Ben Altamirano Stadium in Silver City. Kickoff is set for 2:30 p.m. (Central Time). WNMU beat UT-Permian Basin 48-17 in Odessa for its second straight LSC victory.
