THE RUNDOWN

SAN ANGELO, Texas – Junior forward Destinee Williamson delivered a strike in the 83rd minute to break a scoreless game and lift Midwestern State to its fourth-straight win in a 1-0 road victory over Angelo State in the Lone Star Conference opener Friday evening at ASU Soccer Stadium.

With seven and a half minutes to play, sophomore defender Imani Morlock found Williamson for her second goal in as many games. The Mustangs defense held strong throughout the night against Angelo State (5-2-1, 1-1 LSC) as the Rambelles outshot Midwestern State (4-1-2, 1-0 LSC) 25-7 with a 12-5 advantage in shots on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Courtney Burnette collected seven of her 12 saves of the night in the second half, matching a career high while coming away with her third-straight shutout and fourth in the last five outings.

While Burnette was steady for the Mustangs between the posts, the Rambelles came close to getting on the board in the 51st minute as a shot by Demi Tsambasis narrowly missed the net by hitting the post to keep the contest scoreless.

QUOTE OF THE GAME
"Angelo (State) is an excellent team - very organized and flexible tactically. They forced us into our half for most of the game, but we dealt with the pressure and found a way to win. Courtney made 3-4 game-winning saves and Destinee finished our one good opportunity. We are still learning a lot as a team and excited to improve on Sunday." - Head coach Damian Clarke
