THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – A trio of Mustangs lifted 17th-ranked Midwestern State to a dominant 4-1 victory over Eastern New Mexico in Heartland Conference action Saturday afternoon at MSU Soccer Field.
Christian Okeke struck first for Midwestern State (4-1-1, 2-0-0 HC) in the 19th minute with a shot from inside the box to put the Mustangs ahead early, 1-0.
An own goal evened the match for Eastern New Mexico (2-2-1, 1-1-0 HC) in the 22nd minute as a shot went off an MSU defender. However, the Mustangs were able to grab the lead back before the half with a score from
Patrick Fitzgerald after a corner kick from
Gabriel Cavalcante in the 29th minute.
The Mustangs added some cushion late in the second period with
Pierre Bocquet sending a shot from the left side of the box for his first goal of the season in the 77th minute.
An own goal rounded out the MSU scoring in the 84th minute with
Antonio Hernandez's shot going off the leg of an ENMU defender for the 4-1 final.
