THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State hit a season-high .292 behind a career-best 21-kill performance from junior outside hitter Aerielle Edwards in a 3-0 sweep (25-19, 25-21, 25-15) over Southeastern Oklahoma State in the finale of the MSU Hampton Inn-vitational Saturday evening at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

Midwestern State (4-4) jumped out to a 10-4 lead in the opening set to force an early timeout for the Savage Storm after a kill from junior outside hitter Meghan Bettis. Southeastern Oklahoma State (5-3) was unable to pull closer than four the rest of the frame as Edwards recorded eight of her kills and junior setter Kristan Aduddell dished out 18 assists to lead the Mustangs to a 25-19 first set win.

SOSU held the momentum early in the second set, running out to a 5-1 lead and maintaining that advantage through most of the set until MSU went on a 4-0 run to even the score at 17 apiece following an Edwards kill. A Bettis kill and ace for Aduddell forced the Savage Storm to call a timeout after the Mustangs rallied to take a 19-18 lead. MSU claimed three of the final four points of the set to take a 25-21 win as Edwards recorded nine kills in the frame and Aduddell finished with a double-double with 12 assists and 10 digs.

The Mustangs overcame another early deficit in the third set, erasing an 8-4 hole with an Edwards kill capping off a 4-0 run. Behind the serve of Bettis and junior right side hitter Sarah Garfield, Midwestern coasted in the final stretch as the Mustangs went on a 16-3 run to take a 25-15 victory with Garfield posting five kills and six digs on a .714 hitting percentage to give the Mustangs the sweep.

QUOTE OF THE GAME
"I'm definitely proud of the gains we made this weekend. We talked about how well we can recover from a loss and proving to ourselves we're capable. I think coming out the way we did against Southeastern (Oklahoma) was big for us. You could tell they were motivated differently. They felt like they owned the court and they took that game. That's the confidence we're trying to create and the culture we're trying to build here." – Head coach Natalie Rawson
