DENVER – Senior
Nicole Coetzer and freshman
Avery Lewis both recorded scores in Midwestern State's 2-2 season-opening draw against Regis (Colo.) Thursday night at the Regis Match Pitch in Denver.
Coetzer recorded the first goal of the season for the Mustangs in the 27th minute with a header off a cross from senior
Abbey Barnum to put MSU ahead 1-0.
A Regis score in the 39th minute evened the contest at halftime following a goal from Sade Akindele.
Lewis lifted the Maroon and Gold back in front in the 74th minute with her first career goal as a Mustang, finding the right corner of the net from 15 yards out for a 2-1 MSU advantage.
With just over three minutes remaining in regulation, a cross by Regis' Mickie Piechowski hit the right post and found the net to send the match into overtime tied at 2-2.
Junior keeper
Courtney Burnette kept the Rangers from tallying the golden goal in the extra periods with four saves in the final 20 minutes of action.
