THE RUNDOWN
PUEBLO, Colo. – A pair of early first half goals by Laikyn Koss carried Colorado State-Pueblo to a 2-0 victory over Midwestern State Saturday afternoon at Gonzales Soccer Stadium.

Colorado State-Pueblo (1-1-0) went on top 4:26 into the opening period with Koss' first strike. A corner kick from Danelle Dondelinger caused a scramble for possession of the ball in front of the net before Koss got a foot on it to give the ThunderWolves a 1-0 advantage.

Koss added her second goal of the match in the 17th minute off a pass from Megan Garcia.

Midwestern State (0-1-1) was held without a shot until the 14th minute of play when senior Abbey Barnum placed one on goal. The Mustangs placed three of their four shots on target in the first 45 minutes of action.

As the MSU defense did not allow a shot in the final 65:46 of the contest, seniors Katie Huff and Nicole Coetzer placed shots on goal in the final stretch looking to even the match but CSU-Pueblo goalkeeper Alison Darr came away with five saves on the day to earn the shutout win.

QUOTE OF THE GAME
"Obviously, you look at the box score and can tell in the first half we struggled to figure out what they were doing. I think it's unfortunate it takes a kick in the pants to learn some things, but we're learning about the team and our mentality. The team we're playing was a good passing team and they forced us to press high and we couldn't adjust to that quickly enough. We took some steps in the second half but as a whole we're disappointed in the performance." – Head coach Damian Clarke

UP NEXT
The Mustangs travel to Las Vegas, N.M., for their third-straight road contest to open the season Monday with a noon (CT) kickoff against New Mexico Highlands at Perkins Stadium.
