AUSTIN, Texas – The 11th-ranked Midwestern State men's tennis team remained perfect in South Central Region play Friday evening as the Mustangs earned a 5-2 win over No. 33 St. Edward's at the Strohmeyer Varsity Tennis Courts.

Midwestern State improved to 13-6 overall and 8-0 in regional play to bolster its resume for the upcoming NCAA Tournament. St. Edward's fell to 9-12 on the season with the loss.

Freshman Benjamin Neander clinched the win for the Mustangs on court five, rallying from a first set defeat to take down Mateus de Col, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, to give Midwestern the 5-2 victory.

The Mustangs took a 2-1 lead heading into singles action after wins at No. 1 and 2 doubles. The 19th-ranked duo of senior Kyle Davidson and junior Ramon Toyos defeated the No. 20 team of Charlie Shin and Ricardo Pineda on court one, 8-4, to put MSU up 1-0. Senior Zack Santagate and freshman Dillon Pineda added to the Mustangs lead with an 8-4 victory of their own at No. 2 doubles before the Hilltoppers posted an 8-6 win on court three.

Pineda was leading his match at No. 4 singles, 6-1, 2-6, 2-0, when Logan Buignet retired due to injury. No. 44 Davidson then stretched the MSU advantage to 4-1 with his 6-1, 2-6, 6-2 triumph over Pineda at No. 1 singles.

Maximo Agoglia recorded the lone singles win for the Hilltoppers on court three, defeating junior Chris Norrie, 6-2, 6-3.

Midwestern State next takes on NCAA Division I UT Arlington tomorrow at 11:30 a.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
