No. 11 Mustangs rout Eastern New Mexico, 112-68, in LSC quarters

ALLEN, Texas — No. 11-ranked Midwestern State erupted for a Lone Star Conference Postseason Tournament-record output in a 112-68 win over Eastern New Mexico in the quarterfinal round Wednesday night at the Allen Event Center.

Senior guard Jordan Stevens poured in a game-high 21 points as all 15 players scored points in a 44-point rout of the Greyhounds.

The Mustangs poured in a season-best 63 points in the first half shooting 60 percent as Eastern New Mexico rolled the dice employing a full-court, trapping pressure.

The pressure didn't have much of an impact on MSU which scored 100 points for the fifth time this season including a second time against the Greyhounds registering 110-62 win earlier this season in Portales.

The Mustangs turned the ball over just 10 times and commanded a 22-3 edge in transition while leading by as many as 50 points in the runaway.

Senior forward Khapri Alston chipped in 14 points and seven rebounds in just 18 minutes, while DeVaughn Jones logged his first double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds on 5-of-6 shooting from the field.

Senior guard Hershell Grant added 10 points on 3-of-5 shooting with a 3-pointers, while Sheldon Hagigal and Mike Udume had nine points each.

Only one player — Pat Smith — logged more than 20 minutes and 13 of the 15 played at least 10 minutes.

The 112 points bettered MSU's previous high set in a 110-90 win over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Feb. 29, 2000 at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

The Mustangs, who improved to 22-5 on the season, move on to face the winner of Thursday's quarterfinal matchup between West Texas A&M and Cameron in the semifinal round Friday at the Allen Event Center. Tipoff is set for 8:30 p.m.

Kevin Saiz and Deyton De La Cerda scored 10 points to lead Eastern New Mexico. The Greyhounds end the season at 5-22.
