MIDLAND, Texas – The No. 12 Midwestern State men's tennis team returned to their winning ways Friday morning as the Mustangs posted a 9-0 sweep over NJCAA No. 7 New Mexico Military Institute at the Bush Tennis Center.
Senior
Kyle Davidson came within one win of 100 career victories Friday with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles with junior
Ramon Toyos. With one more win, Davidson could become just the 10th Mustang in MSU men's tennis history to reach the 100-win plateau.
Midwestern State (3-1) took little time in opening up a sizeable advantage on New Mexico Military Institute (1-3), recording an 8-2 win at No. 2 doubles and earning a win by default at No. 3.
The Mustangs coasted in singles play with four straight-set wins, a super tiebreaker victory and win by default at No. 6. Freshman
Dylan Hall clinched the win for MSU with a 6-0, 6-1 victory at No. 3. Toyos, the 39th-ranked singles player in the country, recorded a 6-2, 6-3 win at the top of the lineup while junior
Chris Norrie posted a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 4 to tie Toyos for a team-high three singles wins on the season.
Midwestern State will wrap up the day at 2 p.m. with a match against host Texas-Permian Basin.
