THE RUNDOWN
WICHITA FALLS, Texas – A pair of late strikes for St. Edward's Dylan Armstrong lifted the No. 2 seed Hilltoppers to a 2-0 upset win over top-seeded Midwestern State in the Heartland Conference Tournament Championship Sunday afternoon at MSU Soccer Field.
Armstrong put St. Edward's (17-2-1) on the scoreboard in the 78th minute, collecting a loose ball after his first shot was blocked before finding the right corner of the net for a 1-0 SEU lead. Armstrong struck again less than four minutes later off a cross from Grant Mobley into left side of the net for a 2-0 Hilltopper lead with less than nine minutes to play in regulation.
Midwestern State (16-3-1) looked to cut into its deficit down the stretch, totaling seven of its 13 shots in the final 10 minutes. The Mustangs were unable to light up the scoreboard with SEU goalkeeper Kevin Leib collecting two saves while one MSU shot attempt hit the crossbar.
