Efficient Mustangs rout USAO in exhibition opener, 107-75

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Junior Shawn Nottingham sliced his way to the bucket to lead group of four other teammates in double figures tallying 22 points in Midwestern State's 107-75 win over Science & Arts (Okla.) Monday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.
 
Nottingham fired in 11-of-14 shots while dishing out six assists in 22 minutes off of the bench in MSU's exhibition opener.
 
Junior Igor Ibaka added a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds going 5-for-7 from the field including a corner 3-ball to give the Mustangs an 82-57 lead with 8:45 to play.
 
It was one of 11 triples for the Mustangs who combined shoot 50 percent from beyond the arc.
 
Senior Sheldon Hagigal also came off of the bench to hit three triples going 5-of-8 from the floor for an efficient 15 points and six rebounds, while fellow senior Pat Smith buried a team-high four 3-pointers to finish with 14 points of his own.
 
Junior guard Brandon Neel notched 10 points and five rebounds in 20 minutes of floor time, while junior Nick Powell tallied nine points and snagged five boards in 23 minutes off of the bench.
 
Hagigal ignited a 13-4 run with a pair of triples early in the first half as the Mustangs pushed the lead to double figures on Powell's first 3-ball of the night to lead 26-16 with 12:52 to go in the first half.
 
Midwestern led by as many as 23 points in the first half before pushing the bulge to 34 in the waning seconds of the second half.
 
MSU closes exhibition play Monday night against Oklahoma City at Ligon Coliseum. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
 
NOTES
* Midwestern State returns no starters from the 2015-16 Lone Star Conference championship squad.
* Three starters scored in double figures and combined for 49 points.
* Shawn Nottingham (22 points) and Sheldon Hagigal (15 points) combined for 37 of the 58 points MSU scored off of the bench.
* Six different Mustangs connected on 3-pointers as MSU shot 50 percent from the arc (11-for-22).
* Midwestern controlled a 49-30 edge on the glass scoring 20 second-chance points off of 15 offensive rebounds.
* MSU scored on 49 of its 90 possessions for an average of 1.19 points per trip.
* The Mustangs shot 55.1 percent as a team from the field and better than 50 percent in each half.
